Do you like showtunes? Karaoke? Live piano? Drinking? All of the above? Then this is the event for you.
Join musical theatre pianist Zack Ford at Sid Gold’s Request Room for a 6-9 happy hour EVERY WEDNESDAY, where he’ll be taking requests for your favorite showtunes that you want to get up and sing for the crowd. It’s like karaoke, but with live piano accompaniment! Come belt out your favorite Broadway, Disney, and movie musical songs in a judgment-free zone! There will be plenty of sing-alongs even if you don't feel like taking the spotlight.
Be sure to share this event info with anyone you might think is interested, and make a reservation to guarantee your table:

Curious what to bring, how to prepare, or how it works? More details are below! But the tl;dr is: Come out and have a drink and enjoy some fun cabaret!
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠?
When you get to the bar, you’ll find a QR code on every table that will take you to a web form where you can submit which song you want to sing. It’ll also link you to the Google Doc song catalog to give you ideas of what you might want to sing, just like a karaoke book. Zack will manage the queue and call you up when it’s your turn.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭?
Nothing! All you’ll have to pay for is your drinks. But tipping is highly recommended!
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠?
If it’s a song that’s been sung in a musical or in a musical movie or TV show, it’s fair game. Zack has a big collection of scores with recommendations from each show, but you’re welcome to pick whatever you want. Just because it’s not listed doesn’t mean he doesn’t have it!

Thanks to jukebox musicals, there are a couple of pop/rock socks to pick from, but check out Sid Gold’s any other night for non-showtunes piano karaoke!
𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧?
No, at least not on the fly. You’ll have to sing it in its original key unless you bring your own sheet music with the transposition, which you are welcome to do. (Zack plays by sight, not by ear.)
𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐤𝐞?
No, because remember: This is live piano, not a recording! But, you are welcome and encouraged to pull them up on your phone or tablet to help you along, and Zack is also there to assist if you get lost.
𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠/𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐲/𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐮𝐭?
Sure! Just make sure Zack has his own copy of the music to read from that’s clearly marked. No loose pages please! There will also be a link to an email address where you can send Zack a PDF to play from.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠?
You don’t have to bring anything so long as you have your phone to pull up the request form.
If you plan on singing but want some help with the words or want to read from your own sheet music, bring your tablet! If nothing else, it’ll make it much easier for you to read the words. There's always a tablet available at Sid Gold's to pull up the lyrics.
If you want to sing something in a different key, with a preferred arrangement, or with a custom cut — or just something totally obscure or new that Zack doesn’t have — make sure to bring your own sheet music or have a PDF to email Zack. Please make sure printouts are in a binder or otherwise put together; loose pages will not be accepted. Musical theatre performers are welcome to bring their audition books if they want to get a little practice!
Even if you don’t want to sing at the mic, we'll do singalongs throughout the day so you still have a chance to participate! Make sure you bring an appetite for Sid Gold’s tasty drinks and warm enthusiasm to cheer on all the singers!
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝'𝐬?
Sid Gold’s DC is in Union Market, just a few blocks’ walk from the NoMa-Gallaudet U Metro stop on the Red Line.
The entrance is tucked away in an alley between 4th St. NE and 5th St. NE off Morse St. NE. (Look for the restaurant Palette 22; the alley is around back.)
