- **Event Description**: JoVia Armstrong (Percussion, Electronics) and Amy K Bormet (Piano, Keyboards, Vocals, Electronics) play themes of the future.About this EventInspired by Shirley Horn, Geri Allen, and Duke Ellington, DC’s own Amy K Bormet is a pianist, vocalist, and composer, seamlessly fusing elements of jazz, singer-songwriter, and the avant-garde, leading her to stages on national and international festivals. Her compositions have been performed by ensembles of all sizes, from a Swedish chamber choir, to the National Symphony Orchestra.  In 2011, to foster creative community spaces – by, and for, women and non-binary musicians, Amy K Bormet created the Washington Women in Jazz Festival. She directs, finances, and performs with Washington Women In Jazz to celebrate the women and non-binary artists of DC’s renowned improvisational music communities. Now in its 16th year, she collaborates with Leigh Pilzer, Biggi Vinkeloe, Shana Tucker, and more than 75 women and non-binary musicians from around the globe.JoVia Armstrong is a Detroit-born percussionist, composer, sound artist, and educator whose multidisciplinary career spans continents, genres, and communities. Known for her visionary blend of experimental composition, Black musical traditions, and immersive technologies, Armstrong’s artistry is rooted in rhythm and storytelling. She has performed and collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including El DeBarge, Omar, The Impressions, Les Nubians, Rahsaan Patterson, Maysa, Joe Vasconcellos, Nicole Mitchell, Isaiah Sharkey, Jeff Parker, Frank McComb, and Malian musicians Ballaké Sissoko and Babani Koné, among many others. She also appears in Johnny Gill’s music video Soul of a Woman, featuring Tiffany Haddish.--Since 2011, Amy K Bormet has produced the Washington Women In Jazz to spotlight the women and non-binary jazz artists of Washington, DC and their collaborations with national and international artists. Held annually in March, the Washington Women In Jazz Festival includes an Emerging Artist Showcase, elevating young musicians and providing opportunities to connect with professional musicians. The festival is rounded out with a continuously evolving slate of workshops, jam sessions, and concerts.
