Refugee Community Garden Work Day (August 18th)

Refugee Community Garden Work Day (August 18th)

Join World Relief in helping build the refugee community garden, our newest refugee and immigrant empowerment space! Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing that can get dirty. Some activities will be labor itensive and will require lifting.

9:00 am: Meet at the Hillside Church (930 E James St, Kent, WA 98031) for a thirty minue orientation on the vision of the community garden and specific instructions and goals for the day.

9:30 am: Begin work.

12:00 pm: Conclude work.

We are converting an acre of paved parking lot space and transforming it into the Paradise Parking Plots community garden with 50 plots, where refugees, immigrants and local community members can gather to grow culturally appropriate foods that promote a healthier lifestyle, improve food access, foster economic independence, and build community. Further, this garden will provide a much needed space for interactive nutrition and health education of youth and adults in the Kent community.
