Join us for Orchid Family Day at our 30th annual joint orchid exhibition, “More Than a Flower: The Connective Power of Orchids,” in collaboration with Smithsonian Gardens and the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Whether you’re a curious individual or a family seeking hands-on fun, Orchid Family Day welcomes visitors of all ages to explore, learn, and celebrate together.   

Enjoy a variety of activities designed for all ages exploring this captivating plant family and discover the many ways orchids connect us with nature and each other.  

Activity Highlights:   

 * Connect with the sights, sounds, and smells of the exhibition through a morning meditation
 * Create a flower collage and contribute to a blossoming community art wall with NMAAHC Kids
 * Take part in a hands-on art activity with Smithsonian Gardens and learn about orchid care at the Discovery Station
Design your own flower crown inspired by Lucille Caines’ Orchid Hat 
 * Explore the exhibition with an orchid-themed scavenger hunt   
* Stop by our activity stations to learn about the important work done by the experts from the United States Botanic Garden and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center  

Please note: This program is offered in partnership with Smithsonian Gardens and the “More than a Flower: The Connective Power of Orchids” exhibition on display at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). 


Free timed-entry passes are required to enter the National Museum of African American History and Culture for this program. Registering for this program functions as your timed-entry pass.
