Join us for a Virtual Fundraising 5K to raise money for HOBY DC!
What Is a Virtual 5K?
A Virtual 5K is an opportunity for you to have fun and raise money to make sure HOBY DC can happen in 2019--and better yet, you can do it on your OWN schedule at your OWN pace!
You can do this 5K ANYWHERE between March 10th and March 24th. That means you can hang out along the C&O canal while you run with your dog, take a stroll around your neighborhood with your family, go on a hike in Rock Creek Park--you can participate whenever, wherever, and however you want!

Sounds Great! So What Do I Need to Do?
While we're looking forward to everyone getting to enjoy the outdoors and hopefully run/walk with us on the 17th, this is, at heart, a fundraiser for a program we love a lot.
Here's what you need to do to join us - we promise it's simple!
1. RSVP on this page (click "select a date" on the orange button--don't worry if you end up doing a different date than the one you select!)
2. We're asking everyone to raise $225 (the registration cost for 1 ambassador, and a huge help to pulling off the seminar) to participate. Please direct donations to PayPal aG9ieWRjZmluYW5jZXMgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==, and ask people donating on your behalf to make a quick note on the donation with your name.
3. Then, either join us on March 17, or if you aren't able to, let us know you ran/walked/jogged/crawled/skipped your 5K on our Facebook page!
What If I, or the People Donating to Me, Don't Have a PayPal Account?
No worries! We can work with you to get us the money in the most efficient way possible. If you're uncomfortable collecting the funds and writing us a check, you can direct your donors to our GoFundMe page--just ask them to write your name in the note.*
Can I Raise More Than $225?
PLEASE DO! We're asking for $225 as a minimum threshold.
I'm Having Trouble Raising the Money. What Should I Do?
We understand! We encourage you to advertise your 5K fundraising on all your social media platforms, and to let friends and family know you're raising money for a good cause. No amount is too small! If you can get 5 friends to donate $10 each, you're already a quarter of the way there! If you're still struggling to reach the $225, we encourage you to post on the Facebook page for some ideas from both the event organizers and from your fellow 5K participants.
If I Can't Join You on the 17th, How Do I Know How Long a 5K Is?
There are lots of easy ways to track your mileage! If you or someone joining you has a FitBit, Apple Watch, or other type of smart fitness device, you can easily track your steps and distance. You can also download Apps like Nike Run Club, which will allow you to keep track of your miles on your phone. Finally, you can use MapMyRun.Com to not only find some routes, but measure and create your own!
* The main reason we prefer PayPal to GoFundMe is that we get a larger percentage of the donation to go right to HOBY DC. But, we're happy to get whatever we can from whomever we can!
