- **Event Name**: Eighth Carnival of Darkness Film Festival and the annual Halloween Festival
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 16 Oct, 2026 at 07:20 pm – Sat, 17 Oct, 2026 at 05:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: On Oct. 16-17, our Halloween Festival and Carnival of Darkness film festival will howl through downtown Washington during the Smoke on the Water barbecue festival!

Scheduled events include live music, a film premiere, Creepy Karaoke, Halloween vendors, haunted-history presentations, costume contests for kids and adults, scare experiences inside the Turnage Theater and nearby, and sci-fi, horror, and suspense films from around the world.

The house opens at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, with the show beginning at 7:20 p.m. Film screenings and other happenings run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

Crowning the first night will be "Horror Show VI," a wild Halloween variety performance hosted by Bloodcurdling Brandon and others and staffed by some of the finest actors, singers, and dancers in North Carolina.

Scheduled guests include Carolina Still, Monsters on Main, Queen Anne's Revenge, the Haunted Pamlico Dancers, members of the Tar River Players, the Post Mortem Players theater troupe of Charlotte, and many other acts to be announced.

We're putting together a bigger company than ever for this event, which will spotlight films and screenplays we select from hundreds of entries in the Carnival of Darkness competition.

We'll open the theater for the hour-long Monster Dance Party at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16. During the show, we'll hand out candy and bring you into the proceedings with a host of surprises, including puppetry, multimedia presentations, actors secreted around the building, and more besides.

Adults are welcome to participate in our opening-night costume contest, sponsored by The Stubborn Mule.

On opening night, we hope to premiere our new horror film, "Suppertime III: The Final Course," which will star actors from around the region, drawn partly from the ranks of first-class haunted attractions in ENC. Part of the score will be played live during the premiere, which will be packed with shocking in-person appearances by some of our stars.

We'll serve up a raffle for horror coloring books and other prizes while Arts of the Pamlico serves up concessions in the entrance hall. Beer, wine, sodas, candy, and bottled water will be among the offerings.

Tickets go on sale June 1 through our Carnival of Darkness page at FilmFreeway.com. A one-day pass costs $10 per person. All proceeds from tickets go to support our nonprofit, Alternative Stage/Haunted Pamlico.

Our film screenings from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday are not recommended for young children. Patrons age 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Some of the films we'll screen feature violence, strong language, and rapidly flashing images.
