- **Event Description**: Join Bol Co-op and Hindus for Human Rights for a book talk by celebrated author Sangamithra Iyer, in conversation with journalist and writer, Leslie Tucker. They will be discussing Iyer's memoir Governing Bodies: A Memoir, a Confluence, a Watershed.

Iyer is a civil engineer and animal rights activist whose writing explores issues related to animals, social and environmental justice, and the intersection of personal and planetary grief. She is interested in an array of topics, including nature-based stormwater management and wildlife coexistence. Written as three letters, Governing Bodies is a personal exploration of some of the most pressing questions facing humanity: How do we disentangle ourselves from systems of harm? Is it possible to grasp the scale of planetary sorrow and emerge with truth and love as our guides, rather than despair? What is the relationship between individual action and systemic change?

Leslie Tucker has worked in book and magazine publishing, children’s television, and broadcast journalism. She has lived in the Philippines and Russia, and wrote We Sort of People, questioning the descendants of a distinct multiethnic clan in rural Maryland.
