About the event

April Book Club
Join us for our next Book Club meeting! We're excited to read LuLu Miller's "Why Fish Don’t Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life" a memoir and biography that intertwines the author's personal struggles with the life of 19th-century taxonomist David Starr Jordan, who cataloged thousands of fish species but faced repeated destruction of his work by natural disasters like earthquakes and lightning. The book explores themes of finding order in chaos, scientific obsession, love, and loss, using Jordan's story of perseverance as an antidote to Miller's own unraveling life, while also delving into the darker aspects of Jordan's legacy, including his involvement in eugenics
