- **Event Description**: Over the years, the Kittanning Firemen’s Band has won many awards and received many accolades. In our 77-year history, this may be the greatest honor to date. We have been selected to represent the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the America 250 Parade in Washington DC. This parade, and the events around DC we will participate in, is the pinnacle of our Nation’s 250th Birthday celebration. We are honored to have been selected and look forward to proudly representing our state and community in our nation’s capital.Celebrate a historic milestone as the nation gathers in the capital for the official America 250 National Independence Day Parade. Taking place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, this landmark event honors the United States' semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The grand procession officially steps off at 11:45 AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and runs for approximately two hours, serving as the patriotic center of a historic summer celebration in Washington, D.C.The iconic parade route marches straight down Constitution Avenue NW, starting at 7th Street NW by the National Archives and concluding at 17th Street NW near the Washington Monument. This one-mile stretch provides a spectacular backdrop for an elite national lineup. Spectators can look forward to a vibrant showcase featuring premier marching bands representing all fifty states, historic fife and drum corps, elaborate patriotic floats, military units, and giant helium balloons. For attendees planning their day, free public viewing is available on a first-come, first-served basis along both sides of Constitution Avenue. Visitors are highly encouraged to arrive downtown by 10:00 AM to secure a prime vantage point and navigate the holiday security lines smoothly. Because summer temperatures in the capital can be intense, packing lawn chairs, blankets, sunscreen, and plenty of water is recommended for maximum comfort.Relying on public transportation is the absolute best way to reach the National Mall, as heavy security restrictions and massive crowds will make downtown parking virtually impossible. The Washington Metro offers direct access to the route, with the Archives-Navy Memorial, Federal Triangle, and Smithsonian stations serving as the most convenient arrival points for the festivities. The holiday excitement continues long after the final float passes. The afternoon transitions into the citywide Great American State Fair, while the evening features the star-studded "A Capitol Fourth" concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The entire historic day culminates at 9:09 PM with the breathtaking Salute to America fireworks display illuminating the Washington Monument and the night sky.
