She holds a master's degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Maryland, College Park. She focuses her work on the importance of documentation and preservation of African American historic sites in and around Washington, DC. She has appeared across the United States, such as at The National Museum of African American History and Culture, The National Gallery of Art and elsewhere. María Fernanda is the creator of seven serial programs, all of which are primarily in-person and focused on poetry.
