Each year, the competition subject is “ripped from the headlines” of current telecommunications, technology, and intellectual property issues, such as potentially illegal jamming of unmanned aerial vehicles, the legality of a contact tracing app's across state lines, consumer privacy of personal information, copyright protection of pre-1972 musical performances, and enforcement of broadcast indecency standards. The competition is co-hosted by The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law's Law and Technology Institute and the Federal Communications Bar Association.
