Nowy sezon Polskiej Orkiestry Sinfonia Iuventus zostanie zainaugurowany niezwykłym koncertem pod batutą Wojciecha Rodka, o bardzo atrakcyjnym repertuarze, a także szczególnie bogatej obsadzie – z trojgiem znakomitych solistów oraz Chórem Akademickim Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Nowy utwór Tomasza Skweresa "Popiół. Hommage à A.W. - koncert na fortepian i orkiestrę" to dzieło jubileuszowe na dwa sposoby: nawiązuje zarówno do dwudziestolecia Sinfonii Iuventus, jak i do setnej rocznicy urodzin Andrzeja Wajdy. Skweres – urodzony w Warszawie kompozytor i wiolonczelista, mieszkający w Wiedniu i Ratyzbonie, koncertmistrz wiolonczel Filharmonicznej Orkiestry Ratyzbony, należy do czołowych polskich twórców swojego pokolenia działających na zachodnioeuropejskiej scenie muzycznej. Język muzyczny Skweresa poszerza tu tradycyjną fakturą fortepianową od gry klasycznej po wykonywanie flażoletów oraz grę bezpośrednio na strunach w pudle rezonansowym instrumentu. Solistą będzie Ignacy Lisiecki, pianista i dyrygent, specjalizujący się zwłaszcza w muzyce nowej, który od ponad dekady buduje wyjątkową pozycję na japońskiej scenie muzycznej, a w Polsce znany jest m.in. z prawykonań dzieł Pawła Hendricha, Hanny Kulenty i Romana Palestra. Henryk Wieniawski ukończył swój I Koncert skrzypcowy, mając niespełna dwadzieścia lat, w 1852 roku jako dzieło arcytrudne technicznie, pisane z myślą o własnych popisach wirtuozowskich. Przez lata pozostawał w cieniu późniejszego Koncertu d-moll op. 22, lecz dziś jest równie ceniony: łączy brawurę charakterystyczną dla muzyki tworzonej przez wirtuozów dla siebie samych z liryczną kantyleną i śpiewnością godną najpiękniejszych kart romantyzmu. Partię solową wykona Gaja Wilewska, jedna z najbardziej utytułowanych młodych skrzypaczek swojego pokolenia, laureatka ponad stu konkursów krajowych i międzynarodowych — m.in. Grand Prix Konkursu Kaprysów Skrzypcowych im. Jana Staniendy i nagrody specjalnej na Konkursie Leoša Janáčka w Brnie w 2025 roku. Harnasie Karola Szymanowskiego powstawały osiem lat – od 1923 do 1931. Stanowią najpełniejszą manifestację ostatniego, narodowo-folklorystycznego okresu twórczości kompozytora. Balet-pantomima w trzech obrazach na tenor solo, chór mieszany i orkiestrę wyrasta z fascynacji muzyką góralską i impulsów, jakich dostarczyły Szymanowskiemu balety Strawińskiego. Scenariusz jest symboliczny i mityczny zarazem: bezimienna Dziewczyna, Pasterz, zbójnicy – i porwanie panny młodej przez Harnasia w kulminacji weselnej sceny. Prapremiera odbyła się w Pradze w 1935 roku; rok później Harnasie w choreografii Serge’a Lifara triumfowały w Grand Opéra w Paryżu. Over the course of two decades, Sinfonia Iuventus has become more than just an orchestra – in accordance with the vision of its founder, the great conductor after whom the ensemble was named, it serves as a breeding ground for talent and an important stage in the artistic development of many musicians who now perform with outstanding ensembles in Poland and abroad. But this anniversary is about more than just individual careers. It also means hundreds of concerts, meetings with wonderful artists and a wealth of emotional moments shared with the audience. For the greatest success of our Orchestra is that, for twenty years, youthful energy has been combined here with the highest standards of professionalism – and passion is transformed into music. The Anniversary Season will be launched with an extraordinary concert conducted by Wojciech Rodek, featuring a highly appealing programme and a particularly impressive line-up – including three outstanding soloists and the University of Warsaw Academic Choir. Tomasz Skweres’s new piece "Ash. Hommage à A.W. – Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" is a jubilee work in two respects: it marks both the twentieth anniversary of Sinfonia Iuventus and the centenary of Andrzej Wajda’s birth. Skweres – a composer and cellist born in Warsaw, living in Vienna and Regensburg, and principal cellist of the Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra – is one of the leading Polish artists of his generation active on the Western European music scene. His works are performed by the RSO Wien, the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, the Münchner Kammerorchester, and the philharmonic orchestras of Jena, Regensburg and Lower Bavaria, whilst the composer himself is a regular guest at festivals such as Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn and Musica in Strasbourg. The three movements of the Concerto correspond to three of Wajda’s films: Man of Marble, The Promised Land and The Maids of Wilko, and the three facets of youth: courage, ruthlessness and nostalgia. Skweres’ musical language expands on the traditional piano technique, ranging from classical playing to the use of harmonics and playing directly on the strings within the instrument’s soundboard. The soloist will be Ignacy Lisiecki, a pianist and conductor who specialises in particular in contemporary music; he has been establishing a unique reputation on the Japanese music scene for over a decade, and is known in Poland, amongst other things, for his world premieres of works by Paweł Hendrich, Hanna Kulenta and Roman Palester. Henryk Wieniawski completed his Violin Concerto No. 1 in 1852, when he was not quite twenty years old; it was a technically extremely demanding work, written with his own virtuoso performances in mind. For many years, it remained overshadowed by the later Concerto in D minor, Op. 22, but today it is equally acclaimed. It combines the bravura characteristic of music written by virtuosos for themselves with lyrical cantilena and a melodic quality worthy of the finest pages of Romanticism. The solo part will be performed by Gaja Wilewska, one of the most successful young violinists of her generation and a prize-winner in over a hundred national and international competitions — including, amongst others, the Grand Prix at the Jan Stanienda Violin Caprices Competition and a special prize at the Leoš Janáček Competition in Brno in 2025. Karol Szymanowski’s Harnasie took eight years to compose – from 1923 to 1931. They represent the most complete expression of the composer’s final, national-folkloric creative period. This ballet-pantomime in three scenes for solo tenor, mixed choir and orchestra stems from a fascination with highlander music and the inspiration Szymanowski drew from Stravinsky’s ballets. The plot is both symbolic and mythical: an unnamed Girl, a Shepherd, bandits – and abduction of the bride by Harnaś, the leader of a band of highland brigands, at the climax of the wedding scene. The world premiere took place in Prague in 1935; a year later, Harnasie, choreographed by Serge Lifar, was a huge success at the Grand Opéra in Paris. The tenor role will be performed by Marcin Franc – an actor and singer known for his dramatic and musical theatre roles, including at the National Theatre and the Roma Theatre, and to television audiences for his role in the series Stulecie Winnych, amongst others. We will also hear the University of Warsaw Academic Choir – one of the most renowned ensembles of its kind in Poland, which has been working under the direction of Irina Bogdanovich for many years.
