Artificial intelligence has become more than a technical breakthrough. It is now a strategic resource shaping global influence. This lecture explores how nations design policies to both accelerate AI development and manage its risks, drawing on first-hand insights from negotiations within the United Nations on the Global Digital Compact and UN AI resolutions🌍
During the lecture you’ll learn:
⚖️ how global AI rules are negotiated in practice
🌐 why international coordination is both crucial and challenging
⚙️ how countries differ in their approaches to data flows, compute sovereignty, and AI safety frameworks
🌱 the role of AI for Good, namely initiatives using AI for health, climate resilience, education, and humanitarian response
🗣This lecture will be hosted by Katarzyna Jakimowicz, an executive leader in AI governance and digital innovation, with over 15 years of experience advising governments, international organizations, and the private sector. She previously served as Senior Adviser on AI and Data Governance at the UK Mission to the United Nations, where she helped negotiate the Global Digital Compact and contributed to the first UN AI resolutions. She has taught executive programs at Harvard Kennedy School and MIT Executive Education, training leaders worldwide in AI and data governance.
