About the event

Native plant flavours at home with Cat Clarke
Join chef and educator Cat Clarke (catclarke.com.au) for a hands-on foray into the delicious diversity of native plants.

Designed for home cooks and food lovers, this workshop explores the vibrant tastes and stories of Australia’s native ingredients-while honouring the deep knowledge and traditions of First Nations peoples.

Cat recently opened a restaurant at the Dimboola Golf Club, where she creates seasonal menus inspired by the region’s incredible produce and local foods. While she’s stepped back from full-time teaching, she still shares her passion through special classes and school visits when invited—continuing her mission to inspire the next generation of cooks.

Begin with a bush food garden tour, where you’ll learn about aromatic plants like lemon myrtle, mountain pepper, and native mints. Cat will then show you how to infuse these sensational flavours into your own kitchen, sharing tips and recipes inspired by her passion for local produce and native foods.

The Warrnambool Community Garden acknowledges the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation as the original custodians of the land on which we meet and garden. Our garden adjoins a significant place, overlooking a former wetland which would have provided a place to feast and gather for generations before us.

We recognise that these foods and their uses have been cared for and shared by First Nations communities for thousands of years. This workshop celebrates that living culture, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from and with it.

If you’re looking to expand your culinary repertoire, this workshop offers a unique and flavour-filled adventure.

Cost is $50 covering costs with donation to garden activities. Bring a water bottle and a notebook.

Worn Gundidj native plant nursery will be joining us with some plants for sale so you can grow your own bush tucker flavours to use in the kitchen.
