- **Event Description**: Join local ecologist and educator Jodie Honan for a hands-on exploration of the native grasses that shape Warrnambool’s natural landscapes, including the many species thriving in Albert Park.

Learn how to identify native grasses, understand their lifecycles, and discover how they can bring beauty, diversity, and habitat to your backyard. You’ll explore how grasslands support soils, wildlife and biodiversity and how this will play a key part of the pocket forest regeneration project.

Attendees are welcome to bring photos of grasses they'd like to identify including grass flower, leaves, general plant and where it was growing.

Cost: $10 with proceeds supporting garden activities
Location: Warrnambool Community Garden, corner of Grieve and Derby Street, Warrnambool
Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, curiosity, and a notepad

This session is part of the pocket forest project, and some of the grasses we identify will be replicated in part of the new tiny forest taking root at the Warrnambool Community Garden. This workshop is thanks to Greenprint Projects, Australian Plants Society Warrnambool & District with funding from a Healthy Cities Landcare Grant, a partnership between Landcare Australia and Bupa.

About your instructor:
Jodie Honan has worked and volunteered in nature conservation for over 35 years, including roles with Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, DEECA, Tower Hill, and Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners. She teaches in the Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management at SWTAFE and brings deep local knowledge of native habitats, ecology, and landcare.
