- **Event Name**: Historical and Medieval Costume Making: Introductory Workshop
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 29 Aug, 2026 at 01:30 pm – Sat, 29 Aug, 2026 at 05:30 pm (+10:00)
- **Event Description**: Create your own cape or cloak and this introductory workshop on historical and medieval costume making.

You will be guided in this process by Melinda Hicks, the 2025 Waste to Art People's Choice winner, who loves making historically inspired dresses and costume from upcycled fabrics. Melinda possesses incredible talent to be able to transform unwanted curtains and doona covers into stunning classic designs and has a wealth of information to share about her processes.

At this workshop, hosted by Repair It Lake Mac and Waste to Art, Melinda will share with you:

- ideas on how to construct different types of costumes
- how to source fabrics on a budget (or even free!)
- ways to build on your knowledge
- inspiring videos to check out
- develop skills that could be useful to developing your own business

During the workshop you will be guided on how to create your own cape or cloak which you'll be able to take home at the end of the event.

Sewing machines and materials are supplied, however you are welcome to bring along your own equipment or fabrics if you choose.

Afternoon tea will be provided.

This workshop is an introduction to Historical and Medieval Costume Making. If you enjoy this taster, a series of workshops for a full costume design will follow later in the year.

Waste to Art 2026 registrations are now open. Workshop participants are welcome to submit their creation into the exhibition, or you may be inspired to create something new after attending this event.
