***POSTPONED TO 20th MARCH***
Come and stargaze in our beautiful walled garden.
This event is running from 6.30pm - 8.30pm on Saturday 21st February. £20 per person.
Our postcode: BH207PG
Join local astronomer Kate Earl for a beginner’s class on astronomy and the night sky. In this two-hour session you'll be shown how to recognise the well-known constellations, hear how they have been utilised by humans since the Stone Age, and learn tips on how to star-hop using the brightest stars.
You’ll also spot Saturn, the moon and star clusters through a telescope. Along the way we’ll chat about the planets in our Solar System, as well as the importance of reducing light pollution for both humans and wildlife, and much more.
The evening will mostly be spent outside, but at various points we will head to the barn to warm up and learn about some of useful tech and apps available that can help you enjoy the night sky when you’re back home.
If the evening is cloudy we will run an indoor stargazing session. Kate will walk us through our Solar System, using models, the latest images of the planets, and a few surprises that can help us better visualise these deep, dark regions of space. We will also see an interactive version of the night sky, and have a short talk on meteorites, with an opportunity to handle some of these magnificent objects that have landed from outer space. All the whilst keeping an eye for a gap in the clouds to do some stargazing! Please note if you have attended one of our previous stargazing session, this indoor presentation will be the same as in previous sessions.
Important Information - Please read carefully.
Careys Secret Garden will provide a FREE self-serve tea station in the barn for guests to use.
It is highly recommended that guests wear sturdy, warm, waterproof shoes as the grass may be wet.
Guests should bring a torch as the ground at the gardens is uneven in places
Please note; it will feel much colder than the forecast suggests, so a hat, scarf and gloves are also highly recommended, as well as wearing many layers to trap the heat in (all this has been discovered from previous events). Standing outside for two hours can get very cold.
This event will go ahead, whatever the weather. Please see information above relating to the indoor stargazing session.
Tickets for this session are £20 per person and are limited to 24 guests
This event is running from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, the gardens will be open from 6.15pm and all vehicles must be off site by 8.45pm when the garden gates will be locked.
