IJD Jam Session

The adventures continue with the monthly International Jazz Day Jam Session hosted by Tony Sundman @ Porridge Watson. The house band will once again feature Chris Dann on keys (and other stuff), Michael Franklin-Browne on drums and Dave Griffiths on bass. It is always the local musicians who turn up to sit in with the band that makes the session. Recent contributors include young Joe Kennedy and his saxophone from Taihapi, WJO soloists Hadleigh Shaw and Richard Singleton, guitarist Chris Salmon, vocalist Kate Valentine, Djembe specialist Barry and ukelele enthusist RJ. And this month we hope to have Michael’s talented daughter Margot singing again with the band and Adam Stewart will be there to add percussion to the mix.
The session is always full of surprises, with new faces and old friends mixing it up. The spontaneous group improvisations are at the heart of the performance. It’s always a relaxing way to spend a Sunday evening, and with the weather warming and the daylight stretching out it’s a great time to come down and check out the music and the hospitality.
