Benny Bleu

Sunday, September 20, 2026 will see the opening of the Music on the Delaware Coffeehouse season for 2026-27 with a performance by banjoist Benny Bleu. This free concert will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the small performance space on the second floor of the Walton Theatre.

Benny Bleu Haravitch plays old time banjo in the Finger Lakes of upstate New York. His performances are soothing journeys through tunes from his homeland, old songs learned by growing up next to a jug-bandleader, blended with modern folk music vibes.

The Finger Lakes area is defined by deep lake valleys and steep highlands. This topography is reflected in the local fiddle tradition, and Benny’s banjo rolls along with that tradition. He has studied and played with regional old-time visionaries Mac Benford, Richie Stearns, Judy Hyman, and Bruce Molsky. As a former geologist, his songwriting is earth-focused and inspired by the natural world. His appearance in the 2025 Clifftop Banjo Finals, alongside his latest releases Banjo Meditations (Bandcamp Daily’s Best Country Music) and Banjo Jubilations (FAI Folk Radi0 Top 5) place Benny amongst the most distinguished clawhammer banjoists today. In June 2026, Benny released his new record “When I Am a Fossil.”
