- **Event Description**: Join us at the William B. Ogden Free Library for Making Merit, a two-part lecture and drawing series with artist Roshan Houshmand. An internationally exhibited artist and educator, Houshmand will introduce Tibetan Buddhist art and guide participants through  painting and drawing using Tibetan Buddhist motifs and symbolism that emphasize intention, mindfulness, and creative awareness. 


This free program is open to adults and teens 16+, with a commitment required for both sessions: Wednesday, July 29 (5–7 PM) and Wednesday, August 5 (5–8 PM). Space is limited—early registration is encouraged. Call the library at 607.865.5929 to sign up.

This project is made possible with funds from the Delaware County Arts Grants, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the
Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Delaware County by the Roxbury Arts Group.

Roshan Houshmand is an international artist and educator with a multicultural background. Her BA is from Bennington College in Vermont (1982) and her MA and MFA are from Rosary College Graduate School of Fine Arts, in Florence, Italy (1983, 1984). She studied in NYC with Julio Alpuy from the Joaquin Torres Garcia School of Universal Constructivism from Uruguay.
She often studies traditional Tibetan Buddhist thangka drawing and painting at Shechen Monastery’s Tsering Art School in Nepal.
Roshan Houshmand’s work has been exhibited and collected internationally, including TOTEM at the Boca Raton Museum of Art; MEAM (Museum of Modern European Art) in Barcelona;
Taubman Gallery at Michigan University; Museo Mazzoni in Maldonado and MuHar (Museum of the History of Art) in Montevideo, Uruguay; Italia Docet/Laboratorium (a collaborative event of the 56th Venice Biennale), and 21st Century American Women Artists at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Belgium. Her recent solo exhibitions include Beyond the Physical at the Riverfront Art
Gallery, in Yonkers, and Mandalas and Making Merit at different venues in Delaware County, NY. She is a recipient of numerous grants and awards. Roshan Houshmand is an online adjunct drawing instructor at Southern New Hampshire University, and she lives and works in Andes, NY.
