The ceremony from pre-Christian times still marks the real New Year for some dedicated followers, before the calendars changed in the 1700s, and this special gathering invokes the return of the sun in the depths of winter. Our line up this year includes poets, singers and musicians producing sounds from folk, through to drone connecting hardware, spoken word and instruments such as harp, clarinet and tape. With more to be announced, artists include Aisha Vaughan, Grahl (Laurel Morgan), Zaffar Kunial, Mochyn Daer, Mod Cog (dbh), Spaceship Mark, Outland Sea, and felx as well as a hybrid DJ set of records and hardware by adam The tone will be horizontal and calm, with our glowing embers and warm sounds blending to create a cosy atmosphere on a deep midwinter's day. Zaffar Kunial https://www.instagram.com/zaffarkunial/ Following his performance at Harmonicon with Matthew Shaw (Stone Club), local Hebden Bridge poet Zaff brings spoken word imagery and magic to the flowing tones and drones. He is the author of collections such as Us and England's Green, and is known for his poems that explore themes of identity, language, heritage and local landscapes. Organic and otherworldly sound rituals merge Welsh folk songs and stories with a wide variety of acoustic and electronic instruments, incantations and effects. Mod Cog (dbh) https://soundcloud.com/modcog Todmorden based, Mod Cog (dbh) goes electronic with a variety analogue tape, synths, samplers and effects to make some ultraterrestrial bleeps, bloops, bass and beats. Improvised electronic drones, melodic grooves and deep subspace echoes make for a trippy journey to multi-dimensional space. Williamson, musician, sound artist and educator based in Todmorden, creates an astonishingly wide soundscape from electronic to acoustic and orchestral instruments.
