This special presentation explores the evolution of these unique California gardens over time. We will also take a closer look at an historic 100 year old Moroccan cactus and succulent garden that offers new ideas and approaches for California landscapes today.

About Dean Kelch:

Dean Kelch is a California-based botanist specializing in the California Flora, as well as horticultural botany. He has worked with numerous leading botanical institutions, including roles as Director of the Ruth Bancroft Garden, Researcher and Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, President of the California Botanical and the San Francisco Succulent and Cactus Societies, and currently manages environmental programs at the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He has contributed to leading botanical research, identifying rare species and studying plant evolutionary history. In a time of changing climate, he is committed to raising awareness for the preservation and restoration of arid ecosystems and their genetic biodiversity.

Gates will open for the lecture at 4:45. The Garden is closed from 4:00-4:45.
