After this visitors are welcome to enjoy the surroundings visit the shop, the museum or even take a walk in the historic market town of Wallingford or walk down alongside the railway on the path towards Cholsey to the nearby St Mary's Church where Agatha Christie is buried.Since the last presentation by Tony in early 2024 where the C&WR had not long received the famous Maidenhead canopy and the garden canopy a new canopy, which provides a sheltered area for picnics and coffees, there has been lots of exciting developments such as station redevelopment/revival, a refreshment kiosk and a new workshop.Long term there are plans for a new station building with gift shop & café and perhaps even an engine shed.Recent events include very popular Santa Express trains, Bunkfest trains, Real Ale trains, Fish & Chip trains and even a Magic on Wheels Train.The railway won the Heritage Railway Association Theo Steel Memorial Award in 2021 for the Maidenhead CanopyThe Cholsey and Wallingford Railway is a 2+1⁄2-mile (4 km) long standard gauge heritage railway in the English county of Oxfordshire.
