Tinka Gutrick Dailey
Tinka began training on a full scholarship with the Harkness Ballet in New York City at age 17. She went on to become a Principal Dancer with The American DanceMachine, performing for ten years under the tutelage and direction of Lee Theodore—the original Anybody’s in the 1957 Broadway production of West Side Story. During this time, the company enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and at New York City Center.
She was later cast by Agnes DeMille as Maggie Anderson in New York City Opera’s production of Brigadoon at Lincoln Center’s State Theater and continued to work as Miss DeMille’s assistant on many projects. Throughout her career, Tinka has worked with many dance and theater luminaries, including Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera, Buzz Miller, Bob Fosse, Ben Vereen, Patricia Birch, and Jerome Robbins.
After touring internationally, Tinka relocated to Seattle, where she became a Teaching Artist for Dance for Parkinson’s Disease and began her 30 year journey with Cornish College of the Arts eventually becoming an Assistant Professor.
Tinka looks forward to working with WWST and returning back to Walla Walla after teaching for the Summer Dancer Lab for over 15 years.
