Tales, which by sharing with you, we hope to keep alive in the hearts of those who love Wakefield as much as we do.We’ll include footprints of buildings long gone, hospitals barely standing, schools, blue plaques and maybe even a poem for you to enjoy. Join us to honour the men and women of The Great War the only way we know how, by remembering.An entirely volunteer led Dream Time Creative & Forgotten Women of Wakefield Production, our walks are delivered by women passionate about his and herstory, who have infectious enthusiasm for storytelling, an interest in the legacy of our ancestors, a dramatic flair when delivering and look great in historical costumes.Taking place on what we hope will be a bright May evening this promises to be a memorable and moving event.Your tour will start promptly and we kindly ask that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start time. You will find us waiting at the Cenotaph, Wakefield (opposite County Hall). You can also find us using what3words area.sacred.anyoneThis is an outdoor event and will take place whatever the weather. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for city walking. You might want to think about bringing a hat and a bottle of water.The walk will last approximately 90 minutes, but please allow up to 2 hours. We like to allow sufficient time for photos and questions and no one is ever rushed on our tours.Wednesday, 22 April - if you'd like to join us on our Florence Beaumont Heritage Walk around St John's Square, on a glorious April evening you can book one of the final tickets here Starting at 6.30pm from St John's Church.Forgotten Women of Wakefield ProjectWakefield's Forgotten Women of Wakefield #blueplaqueparity campaign has proved over and over again that women from our Merrie City not only contributed to the political, social, economic, creative and spiritual landscape of our city but were the driving force behind fundamental changes within British History.Celebrate with us on this Forgotten Women of Wakefield - Wakefield's War heritage walk and learn more about those who shaped our landscape, attitudes and identity.Delivered by a passionate group of dedicated women who look great in historic costume, the 'Round Our Way' team, who have delivered heritage walks through Wakefield since September 2023 to raise funds for the physical cost of blue plaques for other inspirational women from history, will astound, delight, intrigue and entertain you with stories of significant women from Wakefield's past.Other InformationThis is the first of a number of tours planned for this year. Did you know that each new plaque costs between £700 and £800? There are now almost 40 plaques with dedicated female names in Wakefield, which makes us the top city in the UK to recognise our Forgotten Women BUT there are lots more women whose stories need to be told and acknowledged. Hear about some of them on the tour and help us to raise the much needed funds for our next project.Learn more about the Forgotten Women of Wakefield to see how important it is that women are recognised, and help Wakefield remain as a city with true blue plaque parity.You'll hear about plans to celebrate more women with their blue plaques in May 2026 and on International Women's Day in 2027.And of course, learn more about our fundraising project to erect a sculptue for Florence Beaumont in 2028, to celebrate 100 years of universal suffrage.Make a DonationIf you like what we do and would like to make a donation it would be very gratefully received.
