ABOUT THE BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTNING BUGS
If Jerry Garcia and Tom Waits made a folk fusion duo, it might sound like the Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs. Fans have described their music as “effortlessly complex” and blues legend Henry Turner Jr. calls it “funky mountain music.” Blending traditional with trippy, the two have played throughout the US and internationally, including slots at the Anchorage Folk Festival, the historic Mine Shaft Tavern, Mill Farm Music (UK), Rockwood Music Hall, Piedmont Folkways, and more.
While the Bugs know that only tacos and pets can make everyone happy, they aim to create a concoction of sounds that gets a lot of toes tapping and heads bobbing, and maybe make a few friends along the way. When not performing, the two can be found hiking the foothills and mountains of North Carolina with their growing menagerie of dogs and cat (just one) and playing the nerdiest video games imaginable.
ABOUT COULDN'T BE HAPPIERS
What’s in a name? For Couldn't Be Happiers, the whole damn thing. This award-winning folk-rock/Americana duo enjoys every moment onstage together, and it’s pretty contagious. Described by Doug Davis of Flytrap Studios as “Violent Femmes meets Johnny and June,” this songwriting duo puts on a live show that all but dares you not to enjoy yourself. Their original repertoire includes stories about the obsessive drive of a Bigfoot hunter, the misadventures of a plastic bag, and the end of the world from global warming. Their homespun harmonies and powerful vocals will take you from church to holler to Opry and back.
