Come out for an evening of laughter and fun!
With a life story that is as compelling as his comedy, Jody Peters has
established himself as one of Canada’s most unique and dynamic performers.
His singular perspective is born from an upbringing that is a cultural
kaleidoscope: an adopted Black man of Jamaican-German heritage, he was
raised by a white Mennonite family on a farm near Aberdeen, Saskatchewan.
This experience, growing up as the only Black person in a small prairie
town, has become the foundation for a comedic style that is at once
charming, energetic, and profoundly insightful.
A frequent performer at the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in
Montreal, Peters has a national profile built on coast-to-coast touring and
extensive screen credits. He is widely recognized as the host of the
television series The Prairie Diner, where he explored the culture and
cuisine of the prairies.
His acting work includes roles in films like Just Friends and as a voice
actor on the Gemini Award-winning animated series Wapos Bay. In 2023, he
recorded his debut stand-up comedy album in his hometown of Saskatoon.
Peters’ comedy is often described as "as raucous as it is thoughtful". He
expertly mines the humour in the rural/urban divide and the quirks of farm
life, all while delivering a powerful underlying message of acceptance and
common humanity. This thoughtful approach is no accident; Peters holds a
degree in psychology from the University of Saskatchewan and dedicates his
time off-stage to working with Mental Health and Addiction Services,
providing outreach counseling to local youth. He turns his own past
struggles with self-esteem into a platform for advocacy, proving that his
goal is not just to get a laugh, but to make a genuine connection.
