During this (free) event, you come and go as you like to get a taste of outdoor education and all its possibilities. The sessions showcase outdoor, relational teaching methods taught by teachers in real classrooms settings, at WUR and beyond.During lunch (12.30 p.m.), the Dean of Education of WUR, prof. dr. Dick de Ridder, will festively open three Outdoor Classrooms on campus. The fruit of many years of establishing the value of nature-inclusive education! Starting April 7, these three outdoor locations on campus will be available for teaching via the TimeEdit scheduling system. You can also find other interesting teaching locations on campus on the BuitenOnderwijs Campus Map.Participation to this event is free, and you can come and go as you like, visiting the sessions you are most curious about. If you are willing and able to support the initiative and work on nature-inclusive education, we are very gratefull for your voluntary contribution.After registration, you will receive an email with more information and we will keep you updated on the full program.Why outdoor education?"Although the weather in the Netherlands can be changeable, outdoor education offers many advantages. Teaching outdoors can stimulate curiosity, reduce stress, and encourage more open and reflective conversations between students and teachers," says Louise van der Stok of Education and Learning Sciences (ELS), one of the initiators at WUR.Enthusiastic lecturers, students, and collaboration on campusA few years ago, a group of enthusiastic WUR teachers approached Facilities and Services, inquiring about the possibility of creating an outdoor learning space. This led to the formation of an ACT (Academic Consultancy Training) student group, which investigated the possibilities for creating outdoor learning spaces. Their research revealed considerable enthusiasm from teachers and students. In collaboration with WUR and other stakeholders, including ecologists, they investigated which locations on campus were suitable. This resulted in three outdoor learning spaces being identified.The Outdoor Education Marathon is an initiative of NatureCollege Foundation and the WUR Living Lab in Nature Inclusive Education, in collaboration with WUR Facilities & Services.
