Dei siste 20 åra har Flaata markert seg som ein aktiv soloartist både på turné og i studio, då oftast i tospann med pianist og produsent Gøran Grini. Blant eit titals sterke albumutgåver dei har saman, er «Wait By the Fire» (2012) dedisert til låtmateriale frå amerikanske Chip Taylor. 
Taylor, aktiv heilt sidan slutten av 50-talet, var ein respektert artist og låtskrivar som diverre gikk bort i mars i år, 86 år gamal. Av artistar som har hatt suksess med låtane hans finn ein m.a. The Troggs, Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, The Hollies, Willie Nelson og Shaggy.
Den Forvitnelege Countryfestivalen er svært takksame for å få høve til å heidra endå ein av dei store innan country/americana, ved å presentera Paal Flaata og Gøran Grini med eit program av Chip Taylor sine låtar i denne opningskonserten!
