The Village of Voorheesville recently purchased 18 South Main Street—the former Phillips Hardware store. This acquisition provides much-needed public parking in the heart of our Main St Business District.  With this purchase the Village gained a building of historical significance. While it looks much different now, former hardware store once housed the business of Voorheesville’s first Mayor, Frank Bloomingdale. An assessment confirmed the building has “good bones” and can be restored to its original, appealing appearance, thereby preserving an important part of Voorheesville's history. 
Recognizing its potential, we reached out to Senator Patricia Fahy and Assembly Member Gabriella Romero for funding assistance to restore this piece of Voorheesville's history, and they both delivered! The Village is positioned to receive $200,000 to begin the first phases of restoration: asbestos abatement, removal of non-original building additions, and structural stabilization. We now ask for the community's input on the best uses for this historic building.
