Pruning of plants is a task many people sometimes avoid due to lack of knowledge and fear of doing more damage than good. It’s as much an art as it is a science. Join special guest instructor and ISA member, Matt Burke and Overhill’s John Manion - to learn essential elements of pruning various plants.

Some of the Many Tasks/Techniques to be Covered:

>Pruning tools/supplies: which items for which tasks, safety equipment, recommended brands, tool maintenance.

>Why prune: aesthetics, safety, plant health, when to prune.

>How to prune: thinning/cutting to manage height/width, how much to prune.

>When to prune: know the plant in order to know when/how to prune and understand new wood vs. old wood.

>The notorious "A-B-C" cut.

Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at pruning and observe examples of past pruning…both good and bad.
