Nina Doerr
Get inspired by the art on view in our galleries, and join exhibiting artist Nina Doerr to explore the world of natural pigments through the art of relief printmaking.
We’ll begin by learning about the history and use of natural pigments, from their early use across cultures to how contemporary artists incorporate them into their practices today. We’ll also explore the basics of relief printing, including the history of linocut and the tools and techniques used in the process.
With guidance from Doerr, you’ll design and carve your own linoleum block, then move into the hands-on process of mixing custom colors using natural pigments. You’ll try out various printing techniques and learn how to troubleshoot common issues like pressure and ink coverage.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with multiple prints created with earth pigments, your hand-carved block, and the knowledge and inspiration to continue exploring this sustainable and expressive medium.
All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed.
