In this no-sew class, Karen New will walk you through making your own portable design boards. These are the kind of tools you’ll reach for again and again, whether you’re sewing at home, coming to class, or packing up a project to go.

You’ll leave with two finished boards and a setup that helps keep everything in place from start to finish. 

What You’ll Learn

In this class, students will:

+ Create two portable design boards from start to finish
+ Learn how to organize and manage quilt blocks more efficiently
+ Keep pieces in place between sewing, pressing, and layout
+ Build a simple system you can recreate at home anytime

Instructor

Karen New began quilting in 2002 and quickly fell in love with the creativity and design behind it. She is active in multiple quilting guilds across Arkansas and brings a steady, encouraging presence to every class she teaches. Her focus is simple. Help quilters enjoy the process and build confidence with every project.

Class Fee: $25

Spots are limited, so early sign-up is recommended.

Supply List

+ Fabric scissors
+ Iron (a small iron works best, but any iron will work)
+ Pressing mat (ironing stations will also be available)
+ 6.5 x 24 ruler

Materials Needed:

+ 4 strips of fabric, 2.5 inches wide (you will create two sets totaling 62 inches each)
+ Bonding agent such as 505 or 506
+ Glue with a fine tip such as Precision Glue or Roxanne Glue Baste
+ Steam a Seam 2

Helpful to Know:

Fabric and bonding agents will be available for purchase the day of class at 20% off. We can help join your strips before or during class if needed!

Cutting Instructions:

+ Cut 4 strips, each 2.5 inches wide by width of fabric
+ Join 2 strips on the diagonal to create one strip at least 62 inches long
+ Repeat to create a second strip
