- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 18 Oct, 2026 at 09:30 am – Sun, 18 Oct, 2026 at 12:00 pm (-07:00)
- **Event Description**: Workshop by Jess HoustyAbout this EventThis beginner workshop will build our practice of writing about connections to place, ancestors, and non-human kin. Through mini-lessons, writing prompts, and group discussions, we will explore how attention and reciprocity shape our non-human relationships and our approaches to storytelling. We will hone our observational skills, practice thinking beyond the human gaze, and build our skills around language and method to inform a deeper practice for us as writers. Participants will leave with a stronger sense of how stories and memory are embodied in what surrounds us and how we as poets and writers can be grounded and authentic conduits for the wisdom of all that is more-than-human in this world. This workshop will be focused on participatory learning with optional opportunities for participants to share the words that emerge through the workshop with their peers.IMPORTANT INFO:1 .) Our ninth annual festival, from October 16-20, 2024, will be much the same. As with last year, our festival will be a hybrid, offering in-person programming of regional authors, most offered by livestream for those viewing from home, as well as virtual programming of authors from around Canada. And make sure not to miss our pre-fest weekend on September 21/22, with workshops offered by four of our region's most exciting authors, and a festival launch reading the night of the 22nd. Save the date!"
