Pressure Thursdays at The Downbeat, featuring anything goes back to back 2 DJ lineups, with residents Anger and Primitive plus guests. The only rule is to keep it popping, genre flips are the name of the game. Keep it interesting, keep the dance floor locked, this is DJ culture and we’re here to make you dance. No set times. Akela's sound can be described as "Fast Soul Music with Teeth". Known for the soulful side of Drum’n’Bass, Akela’s sound envelops the listener. Shaping his sets to complement the environment in which they’re played, Akela draws from over 20 years of DJ experience, and his influences range from the early days of House right up to the spankiest new DnB. Akela creates upbeat moods, compelling short stories, and satisfied grins with his careful attention to minute sonic details, commanding the listener’s attention.
Since stepping back from regular gigging in 2023, Akela has broadened his musical palette significantly, including open format and Techno sets at Otherworld 2025, and is now returning for more. Expect a wide range of dance music influences represented with skill and intention, specifically curated to get that ass movin’. See you on the floor!
