Outer Worlds is an IMAX screening program bringing together experimental films by leading Canadian artists, presented by Public Access Collective with support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
This expanded cinema program features works by Oliver Husain, Lisa Jackson, Kelly Richardson, Michael Snow, and Leila Sujir. Each film explores different ecologies of the more-than-human world, from forest and lichen to water, sky, and cityscape, using the immersive scale of the IMAX format.
Several works in the program engage directly with landscapes in British Columbia. In particular, Leila Sujir’s Aerial and Kelly Richardson’s Embers and Giants were created in BC and reflect on forests and environments that resonate deeply with this region. Rather than offering simple answers, these films invite viewers to slow down, observe closely, and reflect on the layered relationships between land, history, and perception.
The screening will take place at the Royal BC Museum IMAX Theatre, offering a rare opportunity to experience experimental cinema at monumental scale.
This is a free public event and part of a cross-Canada IMAX tour celebrating Canadian artists working in expanded cinema.
