Overwhelm also reflects another form of proximity: the long-standing artistic collaboration between Evanoff and Hockley, which began at SALT in 2013. Over years of working together, the boundaries between composer and performer have become increasingly fluid, with musical material continually reinterpreted, remixed, and reshaped in performance. For SALT 2026: PROXIMITY, this intimate solo concert turns closeness into an act of listening—between musician and instrument, acoustic and electronic sound, performer and audience. His debut solo album, Pulse-Tide, was named one of The Wire’s 10 Best Modern Classical Releases of 2024. He has performed across North America, Europe, and Asia at festivals including the Stockhausen-Konzert und -Kurse, KLANGRAUM, Tongyeong International Music Festival, Vancouver New Music, and Music on Main’s Modulus Festival. Liam has been a member of the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra since 2020 and was the 2025 Sound Artist in Residence at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. He has also held residencies with Music on Main, Simon Fraser University’s School for Contemporary Arts, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of British Columbia, where his research explored performer agency in complexist music.
