- **Event Description**: Stories into Submissions
- Your experiences of pregnancy, postpartum care, persistent pain, fertility and women’s healthcare

Have you had an experience of pregnancy or postpartum care that you wish had been different?

Struggled to have persistent or severe pain taken seriously?

Experienced the cost or difficulty of accessing fertility treatment?

Or had an experience that made you think, “Someone making decisions about women’s healthcare needs to understand what this is actually like”?

Right now, there’s an opportunity to tell them.

The Australian Senate is holding an inquiry looking specifically at pregnancy and postpartum care, women’s experiences of persistent and severe pain, fertility and assisted reproduction, and the regulation of medical devices used in women’s healthcare.

They’re inviting submissions from the community, including people sharing their own experiences.

But if you’ve never made a submission to Parliament before, it can be hard to know where to start or even whether what you have to say is relevant.

That’s what this afternoon is for.

We’ll come together for a relaxed conversation about our experiences, what we wish had been different, and what we think decision-makers need to understand. Then, if you’d like to make a submission, we’ll help you turn what you want to say into one.

You don’t need to know anything about politics or parliamentary inquiries. You don’t need to be a confident writer. And you don’t need to share anything you don’t feel comfortable sharing.

We’ll have laptops available and practical support so you can make and submit your contribution on the day if you choose.

Why am I doing this?

Hi there, I’m Nikki :). A Goolwa mum to a gorgeous 5 year old and with a background that spans law, social impact, policy and service design.

I’m passionate about people having a voice in the things that affect their lives, which, when you think about it, is almost everything. Government decisions can sometimes feel a long way away from our everyday lives, even though they shape so much of them.

I’d like to make it a little easier for local people to understand how they can have a say and then actually help them do it.

To offer support in preparing submissions we will also have Eve - a local GP and mother of two with both clinical and personal insight into the joys and challenges of pregnancy and postpartum. She feels strongly about the health of our community and wants to help support all voices being heard by parliament. There have been some recent positive changes in women’s health and hopefully we can continue the momentum with further much needed support.

There’ll be tea and nibbles, good conversation, and hopefully a few more Fleurieu voices making their way to Parliament.

Never made a submission before? Perfect.
