Join us for a unique cinematic event exploring the extraordinary life and visionary art of Sveva Caetani, one of Canada's most remarkable and little-known artists.

Born into European nobility, Sveva's life changed dramatically after the death of her mother. For decades she lived in near isolation under the control of her domineering father, largely cut off from the world around her. Yet from this profound solitude emerged an extraordinary artistic vision.

Following her father's death, Sveva began the work that would become her masterpiece: Recapitulation, a series of 56 monumental paintings that transformed memories of suffering, resilience, loss, awakening, and personal transformation into luminous works of art. Through colour, symbolism, and imagination, she created a visual autobiography unlike anything else in Canadian art.

SVEVA CAETANI: Recapitulation – A Journey is not a conventional documentary. Created by artist Heidi Thompson and cinematographer Nikita Bagratuni, the award-winning film is an immersive cinematic experience that weaves together Sveva's own words, her visionary paintings, original musical scores, and poetic imagery. Rather than simply telling her story, the film invites audiences to enter it — to travel through the inner landscape of an artist who transformed darkness into light through creativity.

Whether you are drawn to art, personal transformation, history, spirituality, or the mystery of the creative process, this film offers a rare opportunity to encounter a remarkable life through a deeply moving and visually rich experience.

Before the screening, guests are invited to enjoy a special art exhibition and reception from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM featuring selected works by Heidi Thompson and fellow local artists, along with reproductions and imagery celebrating Sveva's artistic legacy.
