At the age of 5 Jean was stolen from her family and sent to residential school at the Lejac Residential School run by the Catholic Church, 145 kilometres from her parents.

Jean is a knowledge keeper, and land defender who is currently fighting logging contractors and exploratory mining on her keyoh. Jean is one of the very few people who writes and speaks her language (Dakelh) fluently.
