Hosted by Naked Figleaf Press, "In Her Own Words" kicks off with a brand-new season of raw, powerful, and original recitations and readings by writers that challenge, provoke, move, and inspire.
Maggie Sawkins: Award-winning poet, and creator of Flyweight, a live literature production exploring boxing in poetry and film. Maggie brings her sharp eye, lyrical craft, and community spirit to the stage.
Cody Pevreall: Queer poet, co-leader of VEX (Ventnor Exchange Spoken Word Collective), and editor of VEX BOMB zine. Their work spans theatre, poetry, and performance, and their theatre company Kalamazoo launches its debut show in 2026.
Jane Shepherd: Graphic designer, artist, and writer, based in Ryde and Southsea, she is currently working on a memoir about living with HIV, exploring how we shape personal narratives in the face of stigma and illness.
Jean G-Owen: writer, and founder of Naked Figleaf Press, her upcoming collection, Wyuen’s Pyne: a reckoning of women's voices, reimagines historical punishments through poetry and prose, unearthing the resonance of women’s defiance across time.
Come along for an evening of bold storytelling, moving poetry, and words that resonate long after the mic is switched off.
This is a free event, but we encourage you to buy books and zines from the performers.
