About the event

Print day in May Venice _ 2025
Print Day in May – Sabato 3 Maggio 2025🌍

5/5/5

Artists, engravers, and printers from around the world unite each year to share techniques, experiences, and passion, making this day a key occasion to honor creativity and the world of printmaking—from ink-stained hands to the curious public. In Italy, the heart of the event will be the Stamperia at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia, an iconic venue where Roberta Feoli will host this special day, inviting both young Italian and international engravers.

Event Theme: 5/5/5
May is the fifth month, 5 artists have been invited, and 5 different printmaking techniques will be showcased to the public.

An entire day will be dedicated to the art of printmaking, featuring 5 talented young engravers and printers. Each will present their pre-made plates and print live for the audience, demonstrating their unique materials and techniques.

Event Schedule

11:00 AM – Event Opening & Stamperia Tour
Welcome participants with a brief introduction to the event and an overview of the printmaking techniques to be explored throughout the day.

From 11:30 AM
Drypoint with Recycled Food Cardboard by Roberta Feoli
A live demonstration of drypoint printing using plates created with recycled food-safe cardboard.

Printmaker, printer, and artist, Roberta has been promoting more sustainable and respectful art printing for years. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, she combined traditional engraving with a more experimental approach through her Erasmus experience at the Facultad de Bellas Artes, Universidad de Granada. For over thirteen years, she has served as the head of the printshop at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia. A board member of the Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio in Newton, she is also a member of People of Print LTD. In 2018, she was a Guest Artist for The Boston Printmakers and Mixit Print Studio, where she led lectures and Artist Talks in the USA at universities and print shops. She is the first Italian to have studied and specialized at Zea Mays Printmaking, one of the most innovative centers in the world dedicated to less toxic printmaking. Roberta Feoli teaches, leads workshops, and organizes artist residencies, offering her expertise to projects that combine artistic research and sustainability.

From 12:30 PM
Aquatint by Kristen Nelson
A demonstration showcasing the aquatint process with plates printed by the artist.

Kristen Nelson is a printmaker with a degree in art from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. She specializes in sustainable aquatint and expresses memories and emotions through her graphic works. She is currently the assistant to the printshop manager at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy.

From 2:00 PM
Multiple Plates with Experimental Etching by Cecilia Maran
A demonstration of printing techniques using experimental etching and multiple plates.

Cecilia Maran (1997) graduated in Engraving Techniques, Art Graphics, and Drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 2019 and completed her master’s degree in 2021. In 2022, she obtained a Master’s in Graphic Design in Rome. From 2020 to 2023, she was a tutor for the Engraving Techniques-Art Graphics course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Her artistic practice focuses on an abstract style, combining traditional and experimental engraving techniques, exploring the concepts of mapping and relationships with the surrounding environment. She has exhibited her works in various Italian and international cities, including Portugal, Croatia, Macedonia, Estonia, and China. In 2020, she won second place in the Rotary Art and Culture Award (Venice) and was a finalist in the Calco2023 competition promoted by Galileo Editore (Rome). She was an artist-in-residence at the VIR ViaFarini-in-Residence spaces in Milan from September to December 2023. In 2024, she won the Engraving Award at the International Contemporary Engraving Festival in Trento. Her works are part of the print collection at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice. Cecilia currently works as a graphic arts teacher at the “M. Fanoli” State Artistic High School in Cittadella (PD) and as a freelance graphic artist and artist in her studio-atelier in Padua.

From 3:00 PM
Mixed Media Printing with Soft Ground, Aquatint, and Drypoint by Guendalina Cristiano
A demonstration of printmaking using a combination of materials like soft ground, aquatint, and drypoint.

Born in Naples, Guendalina Cristiano trained in graphic arts, specializing in traditional and experimental techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In 2019, she won a scholarship and worked at the Son Boter Atelier at the Pilar and Joan Mirò Foundation in Palma de Mallorca. Upon returning to Italy, she continued her artistic journey by joining the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, initially taking specialized courses and later collaborating with the institution. During the same period, she became an assistant at the Armadillo Atelier in Florence, collaborating with various institutions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Over the years, she has been selected for several national and international competitions. She currently lives and works in Piacenza at her Nubivago Print Studio. Her visual research is composed of fragmented narratives, traces, textures, words, and symbols that give life to intimate and ephemeral stories. The dual act of narration and creation transforms into images layered over time.

From 4:00 PM
Woodcut with Marco Trentin
A demonstration of woodcut printmaking techniques using pre-made woodcut plates.

Born in Castelfranco Veneto (Treviso) in 1992, Marco Trentin graduated from the “M. Fanoli” Art Institute in graphic arts and photography. He then enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, specializing in Art Graphics. During his university years, Marco began exhibiting in various national and international collective exhibitions, while also attending printmaking workshops and working with newspapers and periodicals, expanding his study and practice in graphic arts and image-making in different contexts and applications.
Since 2018, he has been teaching graphic arts at a technical institute in Treviso, and in 2022, he taught the Engraving Techniques “Art Graphics” course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona. He is a founding member of a small workshop in the historic center of Treviso, Pezzi di Carta, created by a group of young artists passionate about art and graphic design. Together, they cultivate a small space within the urban fabric of Treviso, hoping to make it a reference point for promoting artistic and graphic production. Despite their similar backgrounds, their artistic and technical research propensities lead to continuous exchanges aimed at developing a language that can serve as a lever for the rediscovery of artistic, graphic, and engraving production. As a result of this ongoing dialogue, the space is evolving to support various techniques: woodcut, etching, screen printing, lithography, and graphic languages related to stop-motion and contemporary visual communication.

Around 5:00 PM
The day will conclude with a presentation of the works printed during the event, followed by a discussion with the Artists about their creative processes and the techniques employed.

Throughout the day, visitors will also have the opportunity to view works from Artists in Residence and pieces from the private collection of the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica.

Don’t miss the chance to engage with the international art community, discover new printmaking techniques, and celebrate Print Day in May 2025 together!
