ƧUMMER ZINE ƧOCIAL: community zine and book picnic!
Date — Sunday, August, 24
Time — 11am-5pm
Location — Dude Chilling Park (2390 Brunswick St) on the ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Who? — Everyone welcome! bring a blanket, zines and your friends!
Cost — Free to attend. No fee to participate.
What? — community gathering to swap, show+tell, share zines!
*the picnic date is weather dependent and will be postponed if raining/wet ground, scorching or low air quality. Keep an eye here or on insta for updates on any changes

— We would love for you to let everyone know you plan on participating by posting the RSVP promo square on your social media! (Bonus: tag us for a repost boost)
SETUP
— starts at 11am (or come anytime up until 4pm! NO EARLY BIRDS please)
— no assigned spots. there will be markers set up to navigate the general “path” of the blankets, be mindful to keep room for folks to be able to pass through and kindly share the space

WHAT TO BRING
— Picnic blanket, chairs, water, snacks, mask (can be provided if needed) and of course zines! (the zines you make! or even just your zine collection!)
PROMO
— please share with your networks! (insta, facebook, x, tiktok, newsletters etc!)
— poster distribution: if you are able to help post some printed posters around vancouver please let us know and we can arrange pickup this week.
EXPECTATIONS
— this is a community gathering with the expectation that everyone contributes.
Let’s make it a positive and fun experience by: Being kind. Supporting and looking out for each other! Assisting with any Access Needs. Cleaning up garbage (leave no trace), respecting the park and neighbours + keeping dogs/pets on a leash.
ACCESS
— if comfortable please let the community know if you have any Access Needs. Consider if you need or can bring anything to improve the day for yourself or others: chairs, umbrella, snacks etc.
— keep in mind, parks can be noisy, smell-filled, bright environments. There may be music playing, overlapping with talking and other noises. Earplugs can be provided if needed.
— the corner of the park has a cement path going through it, two benches, trees for shade (although it may shift throughout the day)
— TOILETS: porta-potty at the park or 5min walk to Kingsgate Mall (there’s free gendered bathrooms inside on ground level)
— Any emergency/urgent needs (ie: water, bathroom etc) please find MP who can provide closer access (into a building with staircase)
