Creative Essentials Workshop Day is an opportunity for aspiring and emerging creators to test the limits of their creativity. You’ll meet VFS’s industry faculty, tour our state-of-the-art production center, experience workshops in design thinking & sketching concepts, and participate in a film shoot. If you’re curious about the creative industries or looking to take the first step in our Digital Design or Foundation Visual Art & Design programs – this is the opportunity for you!

SET YOUR CREATIVITY TO ‘FEARLESS’

Start the day with a warmup activity that turns your creativity up to ‘fearless’ in group mind mapping – a widely used professional idea generation tool – and through self-reflection, to examine your relationship with your creative selves and explore how to manifest this into a career.

TURN IDEAS IN AN ANIMATABLE CHARACTER

Animation is the illusion of life and a cornerstone of the entertainment industry. Join Animator and Comic Book Artist Dylan Moore for an animation demo showcasing how quickly and freely ideas from the earlier mind-mapping session can be turned into characters and brought to life with the right skills and imagination.

PRACTICE DESIGN THINKING WITH FOCUSED CURIOSITY

Today’s creatives succeed when they match their passions with intentional direction grounded in real world opportunities; this is precisely what designers do. Professional Motion Designer and VFS Digital Design Senior Instructor Nour Al-Amoudi will lead you through a workshop that will show you how to think beyond what “looks good” – thinking instead of how you can lend your skills and creativity to solve problems and connect messages to audiences.

PARTICIPATE IN A FILM SHOOT

Join VFS Instructor Chad Costen on-set for an exclusive hands-on film production demo. Assume a crew role and experience how the director, lighting team, and camera operators work together to film an actor in front of a projected background. Explore firsthand how these combined efforts transform a simple studio set into a moving scene where the lighting and camera movements play key roles in creating an experience that will resonate with an audience.

EXPERIENCE ALL THAT VFS’S FOUNDATION PROGRAM OFFERS

Experience how our faculty helps students discover their passions and strengths, while developing their creative voices, by introducing students to cross-disciplinary skills applicable to Film, Animation, Games, and Design. You’ll see examples of how this program uses workshops, mentorship, and hands-on project work to guide students through critical decisions about their education and careers paths, giving them the confidence and portfolio for the next step in their education or career!

EXPERIENCE ALL THAT VFS’S DIGITAL DESIGN PROGRAM OFFERS

VFS’s Digital Design program trains powerful creative designers to communicate, create experiences, solve problems, and drive sales using design thinking, creativity, & digital tools. The program goes beyond simple graphic design, shaping students into the architects of websites, apps, interfaces, and the motion graphics seen in broadcasts, ads, and live events.
