Greetings, noble duelists and aspiring pointy-stick enthusiasts! You may recall, a little under a year ago, yours truly (yes, me, your humble servant who occasionally remembers to tie his own shoes) managed to snag the coveted Phoenix Tournament win. The understanding was, I'd pass the torch (or, you know, run the next tournament) in a few months.
Well, let's just say my memory is less a phoenix rising and more a... well, a very sleepy chicken. That Phoenix prize has been burning a literal (and slightly embarrassing) hole in my equipment bag for far too long! It's practically achieved sentience and is demanding to be bestowed upon a new champion!
So, gather your courage, dust off your blades, and prepare for The Phoenix Tournament: The "Oh Right, I Was Supposed to Do This" Edition!
This isn't about crushing your opponents with ruthless efficiency (unless you want to, you little rascal). This is a low-stakes, high-hilarity, super-welcoming practice tournament designed for beginners! We're here to teach you the ropes of how a real tournament runs, from the first "En Garde!" to the final triumphant (or spectacularly goofy) bow.
What to Expect:
• A Simple Single Round Robin: Everyone gets plenty of bouts to learn the flow and get comfortable. (Subject to change depending on turnout)
• Top 4 Single Elimination: For a taste of that "winner takes all" adrenaline, but still with a friendly vibe.
• More Fun Than Fencing (Almost!): We're prioritizing learning, good sportsmanship, and helping you build confidence.
And for those who like to be behind the scenes:
It's a great opportunity to try out heralding, lists and martialing! Or just support local shenanigans! We'll happily explain any and how to make a tournament run smoothly. No experience necessary – just a willingness to learn and maybe a good sense of humor! Come on down, get some practice, maybe even win that long-suffering Phoenix prize from my clammy grasp!
Let the flames of learning (and a good laugh) begin!
Yours Truly,
Peter Bates of Stromgard
