Please join us as we gather to celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Evelyn Hallett - a dynamic woman who spent nearly a century making Clark County more equitable, connected, and humane.

Evelyn believed deeply in dignity at every age and stage of life. A natural bridge-builder, she saw gaps in systems and responded by removing barriers with her signature enthusiasm, decisive action, and often, music. Though small in stature, her joyful energy filled every room, and her infectious belly laugh made everyone feel at home.

Through FISH of Vancouver, Evelyn created the free weekly grocery delivery program for veterans living in local housing. As a longtime resident commissioner with the Vancouver Housing Authority, she insisted that residents have a seat at the table in decisions that directly impacted their lives, helping shape more inclusive, responsive leadership.

When transportation became a barrier, Evelyn worked with C-TRAN to reroute bus lines, add accessible stops, create new parking for disabled veterans, and even establish free senior shopping transportation twice a month, simply because people needed it.

At the Leupke Senior Center, she saw loneliness & isolation taking hold during COVID and responded by creating beloved Wednesday senior dance gatherings that restored joy, connection, and belonging. These gatherings continue today as part of her living legacy. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when seniors were most at risk, Evelyn mobilized local and state partners to bring vaccination clinics directly to SEVEN low-income senior housing communities, ensuring over 500 elders received lifesaving care when it mattered most.

In her “free time,” Evelyn infused warmth into the world - organizing hats, scarves, and blankets for displaced women and children, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. She never slowed down - often running circles around staff that were half her age. She just kept showing up.

Evelyn also believed that safety and confidence should never age out. When she learned about Ohana Self-Defense, she personally connected the program with senior women at Laurel Manor, ensuring they had access to trauma-informed self-defense education — because everyone deserves to walk in peace.
One of Evelyn’s favorite reminders was:

“A person needs a purpose in life, and I believe someone up there wants me to get these things done for other people.”

This gathering is not a formal service, but a community celebration of a life well lived — with photos, music, shared memories, and gratitude for the trails she blazed and the inspiration she leaves with all of us.
