The Historical 1907 Pantages Theatre: a talk and public sale
Join us to purchase a piece of history: artifacts from the beautiful Pantages Theatre.
John Atkin and Tom Carter will share their knowledge about the Pantages Theatre and its important vaudeville history. Designed by local architect E.E. Blackmore, it was just the second theatre built by Alexander Pantages for a vaudeville circuit that eventually grew to include 120 theatres across North America.
A small section of the surviving plaster work created by the Detroit Decorative Supply Co. was retained by the Museum of Vancouver, and a few pieces were displayed within the building that replaced the theatre. John and Tom rescued plaster artifacts and are giving the public a chance to purchase these pieces of history.
John Atkin: A civic historian, author, and heritage consultant, John has explored Vancouver like few others and offers interesting and offbeat insight into the city’s architecture, history and neighbourhoods.
Tom Carter: A local artist and appreciator of Vancouver history, Tom brings his unique perspective to this talk. His paintings reflect his work in Vancouver history and research, most notably in the entertainment field.
100% of the sale of this limited collection of Pantages artifacts support the ongoing work of the Friends of the City of Vancouver Archives.
