The Breakthrough Country Music Project
The Roxy Cabaret, Nimbus School of Recording, 542 Entertainment and Music BC are calling for country artist submissions for their 2nd annual country music competition!
Vancouver, BC – The Roxy Cabaret, Nimbus School of Recording, 542 Entertainment, and Music BC announce the return of their battle of the bands style country music competition called The Breakthrough Country Music Project and are calling for solo, duo, and band submissions from country music artists. The competition will run January 2017 to March 2017. All competitors will participate in a variety of different educational seminars and training sessions before competing on The Roxy stage. The Grand Prize winner will receive $7,000 cash, a song-writing trip to Nashville to work with some of the industry’s best, a showcase performance at Canadian Music Week and Sunfest, and a one-year development deal and coaching contract.
This competition differs from other band competitions, as it will give contestants the opportunity to learn more about the business side of the industry, including the realities of bookings, management, contracts, agencies, and more.
“I truly believe that we, as an industry, owe it to the up-and-coming artists to give them a real shot at their careers; not by simply writing them a cheque and saying ‘good luck’, but by immersing them in the day-to-day knowledge and experience of how to approach their career as a business. A lot of today’s artists are doing their best, but are still flying blind. It is up to us to teach them what agencies and talent bookers really look for, and how they can best position themselves for success in today’s ever-changing music industry.” – Billie Jo Aasen, President of 542 Entertainment
Raquel Cole, winner of 2016’s Breakthrough Country Music Project, is a testament to how beneficial competitions like this can be for an emerging artist’s career. Since taking home top prize at The Breakthrough Country Music Project in 2016, Raquel has signed an international agency deal with William Morris Endeavours (WME), opened for Carrie Underwood at SunFest Country Music Festival, along with opening for the likes of Josh Turner and Brothers Osborne, and is currently working on her EP.
“I think Breakthrough created an amazing opportunity to grow as a musician and entertainer. Every time I made it to the next round I knew I had to push myself to work at my show and try new things. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone. A highlight for me was the acoustic showcase. It was super intimate and had a great atmosphere to meet other artists and industry people. I really felt like I became a part of the BC Country music community that night.” - Raquel Cole, winner of the Breakthrough Country Music Project 2016
