Once surrounded by forests and farmland, the Kauffman House now stands within a modern suburban landscape. It remains a link to Clark County’s early twentieth-century story and the legacy of architect William Frederick Kauffman, whose work helped shape early Vancouver, including the Vancouver Carnegie Library. The home also marks the transition from the agricultural era of Fourth Plain and Orchards to the county’s later suburban expansion.
 
Its history, from early development through the struggles of the Great Depression and beyond, offers meaningful insight into the forces that shaped the community we know today.
