Building an arrangement from a lead sheet versus improvisation (parrilla)
Bio: MIRTA WYMERSZBERG
An accomplished flutist, bandoneon player and vocalist, Seattle based musician Mirta Wymerszberg, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina brings extensive experience in authentic tango music from Argentina, where she received her musical education at the Municipal Conservatory of Music, and performed classical and tango music.
She received a Diploma of Studies in Baroque Flute and Chamber music from the music School in Lyon, France, and a Masters in Arts from University of California , Santa Cruz.
She appears regularly in Seattle with her Tango band “Sol de Noche”, as well as a guest artist in a diversity of projects.
She has produced three children shows for bilingual and Spanish speaking audiences, integrating live music, puppets, tango and folk dance, and story telling from a cultural and educational perspective: "Bajamos del barco" (about Tango and immigration), "Calavera va al Panteon" (about Day of the Death), "Un baul lleno de Cuentos" (about traditional songs and stories from South America) this last one received a City Arts grant( (2015). These shows have been presented extensively through KCLS and SPL, as well as the local School districts.
She has performed with relevant Argentine Tango musicians like: Gustavo Beytelmann, Hernan Reinaudo, Claudio Mendez, Roberto Amerise, Juan Lorenzo, Ariel Pirotti and Maxi Larrea.
She has recorded several cds: FLOR de Tango (2000); Figuracion de Gabino Betinotti (2009) A dos Puntas (2016); Ay Margarita, 2011 (children's music in Spanish); and Endiablada de Tangos (2016) that had been selected to be part of the Playback collection at the Seattle Public Library.
She has recently released “El rio de la vida” a vocal album recorded in Buenos Aires with guitar player Hernan Reinaudo, (2024)
She’s a recipient of 2 City Artist grants from Seattle City of Arts and Culture, and 4 Culture has sponsored some of her past projects.
